The Process Of Video Making

What's it like to work on a video?

Here's a step by step chart to show you exactly what to expect when you invest in the video production process. There are two phases; Pre and Post Production. Each step is designed to ensure clear communication, which leads to excellent results, and creates a smooth and seamless experience.

Step-By-Step How to Make a Video

1. Creative Brief

Determine video objectives, target audience, key elements, brand values, etc.

3. Proposal

No, not a ring. But instead, we'll write up an in-depth proposal that includes lines out exactly what investment will be made to bring this project to life. To help, we'll add visual, audio, and music references.

2. Concept Development

Meet in person, via phone, or video chat to brainstorm and discuss ideas.

4. Pre-Production

Now it's time to get to work. Things like determining the shoot date, casting, locations, props, sets, scripts, dates, wardrobe, and budget for each. Preparation is key - the more effort put in at this stage the better the outcome for all parties.

5. Lights, Camera, Action, Let's Go!

It's the big day. Time to gather the crew, travel to locations, and direct and shoot video, following the pre-production plan already laid out. Checking all items off the list and having a little fun along the way.

6. Rough Edit

Create a rough video edit, with music and sound, graphics, etc. Not to be confused with the final video!

7. Review and Feedback

First of two rounds of client revisions. The client will have 4 days to review and provide specific feedback. Helpful feedback here looks like, "Can we re-arrange the storyline here, let's put this clip first, etc."

8. Fine Edit

This is where things get even more real - where the video is finally coming together. I'll revise the video based on the client's feedback. Refine different elements such as sound, graphics, color grading, and timing.

9. Review & Approval

Here, you have a second of the two rounds of client revisions. The client will review and provide final feedback and asks for the video edit.

10. Finish & Delivery

And before you know it... You have this amazing, clear, and exciting video to share with your audience. I'll make any final revisions and apply finishing touches such as color correction, voice-over adjustments, audio mixing, etc. You might even have enjoyed it so much, you'll be ready to start in on your next one.
